School connectedness is a protective factor for student mental health. Students who feel connected to their school are less likely to engage in risk behaviors, including early sexual initiation, alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, and violence. School connectedness is positively associated with attendance and academics as well. Social media influences school connectedness. This influence can be both positive and negative.
